My name is Michael and for so long I have seen on TV and the web too many people around the world pushing quick fix diet fads just to make money. Everyone has seen those ads were they are selling exercise equipment and are saying purchase this from us and just use it for 30 minutes a day and you will have wash board abs.
Just before I continue I have to let you know that I am not a qualified dietician, PT trainer or have any type of medical degree. What I know about diet and exercise is from life experience. So before starting any type of exercise or change of diet you should first consult your doctor.
Now back to the wash board abs, all I can say is excuse the language "that is crap". What they don't tell you is to get those wash board abs is that you need to cut out all carbohydrates from your diet and only eat vegetables and very lean meat and not much of it as well. Also you will still need to do some kind of cardio exercise and weight training to achieve wash board abs. Read More
HEART OF THE MATTER PART 1 - DIETARY VILLAINS
I was doing some research Saturday morning and came across this must see video on YouTube. It is from the Australian TV show called Catalyst, they have some fantastic stories on the latest scientific discoveries. This episode follows the road which has led us all to believe that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease, and reveals why it’s being touted as the biggest myth in medical history.
After I watched this video it made me think how can I ever trust what the Australian National Heart Foundation has ever said about health and nutrition. Gary Taubes is an American science writer and during an interview on the show he said that between 1960 and 1975 there were about half a dozen research trials conducted. All trials refuted or failed to confirm the idea that you could live longer by either reducing the saturated fat in your diet or reducing the total fats in your diet.
The show talks about how there were two trials that cast $250 million dollars and involving hundreds of thousands of patients. Both trials failed to prove that lowing saturated fat could lower your risk of dying from a heart attack. Gary Taubes speeks about how the authorities responded to this was to claim that they must have done the study wrong.
The National Heart Foundation of Australia made a typical answer by defending these failures, saying that nutrition trials are just too complex.
"When you ask that question of 'Do dietary fats increase heart disease?', you're sort of trying to negate all the other risk factors that, in fact, actually also cause heart disease. So, to imagine creating a study that would prove that conclusively is virtually impossible."
Dr Maryanne Demasi asked Dr Robert Grenfell "So, if they can't prove it, on what basis have they decided that saturated fat is bad for us?"
Dr Robert Grenfell response was "Many analyses have, in fact, actually shown that, you know, we can say with convincing evidence that intake of saturated fats leads to an increase in blood cholesterol."
When I listened to his last statement in the interview I was thinking to myself how can he say that there is convincing evidence that saturated fats lead to an increase in blood cholesterol. When all studies around the world have come up without any conclusive proof that intake of saturated fats leads to an increase in blood cholesterol and heart attack.
I hope you enjoy the video I found it very interesting and opened my eyes even wider on this subject. I will post part 2 when it is available. It is going to be very interesting as well. Dr Maryanne Demasi will be investigating the drug industry that is creating drugs that are suppose to lower cholesterol and are making a fortune from their sales.
HEART OF THE MATTER PART 2 - Cholesterol Drug War
I hope you enjoy part 2 heart of the matter the cholesterol drug war. It is a very alarming thing that over 40 million people worldwide take drugs to lower their cholesterol. In this second episode Dr Maryanne Demasi puts the drug industry under the microscope. She looks into who are the people that really benefit from all these cholesterol lowering drugs. The companies that create these drugs make billions of dollars a year from them. This investigation will open your eyes to who really benefits from all this, well worth watching.
